The Puppy Years

Who loves puppies? I do...for a few minutes. As long as it's not mine. Yep, that's right. I can most likely be classified as a puppy hater. So sue me. It's not that I don't think that puppies are cute and sweet and playful and cuddly. I do. Until a puppy decides to take a dump in my shoe, I'm totally in to them. I kid, I kid. Most of the above is total bullshit. Except for the part about the puppy not being mine. That is 100% without a doubt true. And, I will tell you why (try to contain your excitement, I know it must be hard).

On July 13th, 2007 Matt and I adopted our first dog. He was an 18 month old Doberman, his name was JD (we changed it to Cash because really, who wants a dog named JD? Lame!) and he was wonderful. Of course, being new at the whole having to share responsibility for another life thing, there were moments that it was a difficult adjustment. But not really. Because our first dog was and still is wonderful. We love him. Then......well, then we basically just went bat shit bananas. And that's it. Really though, here's the story....

One year  after we got Cash, we brought home a black lab puppy. It had been decided that Cash needed a companion and would be soooooo much happier in the yard all day long if he wasn't by himself (I still think he secretly might wish death upon us for bringing said black lab puppy home, but, I digress). So, on July 12th, 2008 we brought home Macy. She looked something like this:

Cute, right (and yes, this is not actually Macy but a picture from the internet because I am a terrible puppy mother and I have no puppy pictures of Macy)? Yeah, that's what you think! Cute she was, until 3:00 in the morning when she was getting up to pee for the eleventy billionth time that night and Matt and I couldn't remember who's turn it was to take her out and a mini bickering session would then ensue.

There was also the "I do it right and you do it wrong" situation. Matt now knows better, and I am always right (naturally). But, back then he just didn't realize the importance of the phrase "happy wife, happy life". Now he does, so we're all good. ANYWAY....on top of the pee fights and Matt not yet realizing how right I always am, there was (and I know this may surprise you) *****drum roll pleeeeeaaaassseee******* THE RESPONSIBILITY!!!! "What? some may ask? responsibility? whatever do you mean?" I was totally one of those people before. Yeah, not so much anymore. I know it's a shocker, but getting a second dog means more responsibility. Just because you have one dog doesn't mean that it's all the same after that. Oh no. Not to mention, it's not just the responsibility of feeding and pottying (did I really just type that?) the puppy but also......VETERINARY ACTION!!! Yes indeed, your new cute little puppy will need shots and check ups and heart worm meds and more than likely a genital alteration eventually. Plus you have to make sure your first dog doesn't kill said puppy. That would suck. Though, there was a time when Macy completely impaled herself on a rototiller blade. That's another post though.

(Do you think I said Responsibility enough times in the previous paragraph?)

ANYWAYS......the point to this whole post is......when you and your dear husband (or dear wife, I'm not trying to hate) decide to get a puppy, even if you already have one dog, think about it really really hard. And preferably when you're sober. And maybe see if you can borrow a friends puppy first just to see how it goes. I will say that almost two years later, Matt and I are not divorced, we love Macy (most days) and we are glad we got her (again, most days). JUST KIDDING. Really though. Think about it.

And also. Any couple that thinks they're ready for a baby should raise a puppy together first.

Ho-Hum

I have a couple of posts planned out. Like about the new decor in our bedroom and our trip to Tahoe this last weekend. They require pictures as accompaniment though, and since I am a horrible employee and mostly blog at work and do not currently have my pictures with me these wonderful posts will have to wait. But, they will be fabulous and interesting......I promise. Maybe.

In the meantime, I stole this littel gem of a "fill in the answers about me" off of someone else's blog. Ya know, gotta keep the entries rolling somehow. And since I'm not an awesome enough blogger to actually have a fellow blogger tag me into doing the following, I am tagging myself. Because I am cool (lame) like that.

4 Things I did 10 Years Ago (2000)
1. I turned 15 and got my learners permit to drive.
2. I started 10th grade, which meant I went into high school. It was alright. Junior year was WAY better though.
3. I'm pretty sure I had a fan-freakingtastic summer that year.  It was so good, in fact, that I can't remember a single thing about it. I digress. My summers are always pretty super though, so it's worth a mention.
4. I "dated" the same guy for the third time. I use the term "dated" loosely. The first time was in kindergarton and we just had a crush on each other. The second time was in 7th grade when you think holding hands and slow dancing at the winter formal constitutes "dating" someone. The third time was totally more mature though. I think we actually kissed on the lips. Maybe. Once.

4 Things I did 5 Years Ago (2005)
1. Changed my college major from nursing to accounting. What. a. moron. Now, I have an AS  in Accounting degree and am finishing pre-reqs for nursing school. I will more than likely be a student until I am 30. That's alright. I will be a nurse and I will make good money and I will love my job. I learned to go with my gut. Always. I had wanted to be a nurse since I was 11. I let some dumb anatomy professor change my mind. Never again.
2. Matt and I went on our third and final break. The breaks totally sucked a big one, but now I'm glad we had them. They made us both realize there was no one else out there and we were it for each other.
3.  Met James and Tiffany and Skylar Allen (Emmy was still just a twinkle). We were not close right away, but have become  good friends over the years. I love them all. Except Emmy when she hasn't had a nap. That just sucks. JUST KIDDING, I still love her then too. Only because  copious amounts of cookies will make her happy anytime, anywhere.

4. Began to drink too much beer. And now, 5 years later am trying to take my body back to pre-beer shape : )

4 Things I did Yesterday
1. Rode home from Tahoe .
2. Cleaned the house.
3. Grocery shopped.
4. Watched my DVRed shows for like three hours.

(Geez, no wonder I'm not interesting enough to have blog followers!)

4 Shows I love to watch

Um, yeah. I'm a total TV addict. Narrowing it down to four choices was all but impossible. Do not judge me.

1. Grey's Anatomy. Just like every other red-blooded American girl in her twenties! Seriously though, I love it. I know the drama can be too intense for some, and I will give them a free pass. Pansies.
2. Gilmore Girls. Yes, this show has not been on air with new episodes since 2007. I don't care. It is one of the greatest television achievements of all time and I wish I was somehow related to the Gilmores and lived in a little town called Stars Hollow and had a boyfriend named Logan Huntzberger.
3. Cooking shows. Yes, I know that I am 24. BUT, I have made some really great new dinners thanks to Paula Deen, Clare Robinson, Sunny Anderson, and Sandra Lee. There are times when I can stand Rachael Ray, and her food is pretty good too. Giada De Laurentiis is super annoying and can suck it. She needs to learn how to say the names of cheeses like a normal person. Maybe then I will watch her. But probably not.
4. America's Funniest Home Videos and COPS (I told ya I couldn't just do four!). Really, I feel these two shows count as one because I don't like to watch them alone. They are a guilty pleasure that Matt and I enjoy together because it is way funnier to watch guys getting their nards smashed after flipping off a trampoline and crack addicts deny that they just stole a car with company as opposed to by yourself.

4 things I love to do
1. Anything to do with water. Swimming....check. LOVE to be near a pool as often as possible. Hot tubs....check. So nice and relaxing in the evenings.  The ocean....check. LOVE the beach. Lakes and rivers.....check. They're probably my favorite because they involve the boat as well. Add alcohol to any of these and it becomes even better. Yes, I am a lush. Deal with it.
2. Sit in the back yard with my husband and our dogs on a summer evening with a beer (told ya I was a lush!). This is when 90% of our deep, world solving conversations happen and I love that.
3. Shop and eat with my Mom on a Saturday morning. This happens a minimum of once per month. We don't always spend money on fun things, sometimes it's just a Costco trip for groceries or dog food. It's more about the time together than anything else. Love my Mom.
4. Girl nights. Not that I don't love time with my husband and our guy friends, I do. It's just fun to have an evening with the girls to talk about girlie stuff and not get shit for it.

Now, wasn't that fun?

Love is in the air...

....as Valentine's Day approaches, I find myself asking friends what their plans are that day. I don't know why, I never have before as this "holiday" is not one that is especially important to me. Anway, it has been interesting to hear the wide spectrum of responses. Matt and I have never been huge heart day people. Some years we have gone to dinner, others not. Last year Matt was a groomsman in a friends wedding on February 15th, so the 14th consisted of us being at a rehearsal dinner for said wedding. This year, I'm thinking of ordering a pre-made dinner from our local grocery store. It consists of a brie wheel with apricot, 2 filets with crab on top, asparagus, mashed potatoes, bread and chocolate dipped strawberries....all for $50!! Now, this may seem like a lot, but if we were to go out to a nice dinner it would cost a heck of a lot more than that!!! Plus, this way we can enjoy dinner in the comfort of our own home, without a reservation, in our jammies if we want. Sounds good to me. And Matt's on board too so that always helps : )

In other news, I got a ton of stuff this last weekend for our bedroom make over and our office. The carpet is being put into the office today and I have curtains for in there. I was able to find a few accessory items for our bedroom, so now we just need to get it painted and stain the furniture and we'll be in business! I'm hoping to get that all accomplised this weekend as it's a three day weekend! Before and after pictures to come soon!

The 31st of January was Matt's 30th birthday. His present from me this year was tickets to the AMA Supercross in San Francisco! He was totally surprised and excited. We went to the race and then spent the night in the city, our wonderful friends James and Tiffany joined us and we all had a great time!! I was going to post some pictures, but I think a total of 4 were taken and they didn't come out super great soooooooo....too bad!

I have my first microbiology test tomorrow. I feel okay about it, but really, I've come to know that you don't know exactly what your studying style should be for certain classes until AFTER the first test. It just depends on the instuctor and how they test. We'll see.....I'm trying to keep in mind that my entire class grade will not rest solely on this one test so that I don't freak out!

I'm hoping to take my new running shoes for a spin on Wednesday....definitely need to get my butt moving as summer is just around the corner!
