Stuck in a Rut

The other day, we had a storm roll through. That's kind of unusual for late June in Northern California.

My father in law (the best evah!) decided it would be a good idea to travel into the depths of a valley about 40 minutes away from the town in which we live. There is a customer who has a vacation home way in the middle of no where, you see, and their roof had been leaking. But they wanted it fixed because they were coming up for the Fourth of July.

So my father in law climbed into his trusty Ford. It rained. He made the trek to the vacation home. It rained. He even was able to fix the leak. And it rained. And then he was ready to make the climb down the winding, turning mountain road. But the road was very wet. And he ended up sliding into a ditch and getting stuck. We, being the wonderful children that we are, rounded up two great friends and went to rescue him...

Matt and Nate...ready with the blue mountain can!

Stucky McStuckerson himself!

Me with my orange raincoat!

The rig upon arrival...we think we can get it out!

Operation unstuck begins...

Hooking up the wench...

Matt and Jason talking it out...

At one point, I looked down and realized I had 3 pounds of mud stuck to each shoe. And realized it didn't look good for the rig.

The wench ended up loding it in further.

So we gathered tree limbs to try and drive onto and then over....

That didn't work either, and this is what the rig looked like when we left it...

Matt went back up with Jeff the following day to retrieve the pickup when the dirt was dried out and tacky. It was a success.

The End.

...The progress that has been made on the house. We still have a ways to go, but it's exciting to see things change!

...Our fabulous neighbors. We've been living with them for 2 1/2 weeks and it's been great. We're so blessed to have them in our lives : )

Our Weekend...

...was all about the house!!! Ha!

Well, not entirely. But we did make a lot of progress. The biggest thing was the roof was removed! We started this process about 7:30 Saturday morning and finished around 2:00. After that, we went to a local restaurant on the river for some tacos and beer.

 Going...

 Going...

Gone!!!!!

5?F

It's time to answer another five questions on this Friday. Head over to Five Crooked Halos to give your answers!

1. What is your favorite summer time activity?
Typically, it's boating. But this summer, we're working on the dang house (read about THAT here and here). I guess with that being the case my answer should be something like pounding nails or shoveling cement. But, it's not. I still like boating best.

2. Do you have one laundry soap you stick to, or do you buy whatever's on sale?
Target's Up and Up brand. It's awesome. And it smells pretty. One thing I'm super loyal about when it comes to laundry soap? It MUST be liquid form. I don't know why.
3. What is your favorite dinner to make in the summer?
Mmmmmm.....that would be a toss up between BLT'S and ribs with corn on the cob. And now, it is my goal to have one of these by the end of the day!!
4. Do you have any talents?
Ummmmm.....drinker of wine? Shopper of clothes? How about watcher of too much television? No, not really. Once upon a time, I played softball, basketball, the piano and drums. Not so much anymore. I can run!! There, I guess that's my answer. Running without keeling over and dieing!
5. If you could instantly be an expert in something, what would it be? Why?
Whatever it is that they're going to teach me in nursing school. Because I want to do well. And I want to look smart (well, really, I guess I actually want to BE smart too). Any who...I guess I just know how taxing nursing school is going to be, and I want to do it right and come out the other side a great medical professional. So that's why it would help to be an expert!

HAPPY FRIDAY!!

Floor Plan Comparison

Okay, so, in writing a post about all of the stuff going on with the house, I thought it would be beneficial to show what the current floor plan looks like, and what the future floor plan will look like. Please don't be jealous of my mad skills in the Paint program, I know I'm awesome : )

Below is the original plan of our house. Pretty standard I suppose. It's about 1400 square feet.

Now, below is what the first floor of our house will look like when it's done. Things to note are that there will only be one bedroom downstairs, the master. Also, the hallway is getting bigger, there will be a powder room (1/2 bath) for guests, the living room is getting slightly bigger, the fireplace is being moved to where you see red, and where there is green are the places that I will have french doors.

Finally, this is what the second story layout will be. I think the coolest part is that there will be a place in the hall/loft that is open to the entry way downstairs. Oh, and also? There will be a laundry shoot in the bathroom.

Please let me know if there are any Paint projects you would like me to complete for you : ) It's no big deal, I'm happy to loan anyone my skillzzzz!

House Catch Up

WARNING: This post is indeed a catch up, so it's going to be somewhat picture heavy!!

I've mentioned before that my husband and I are in the middle of remodeling/adding onto our home. At this point in time, we're about knee deep in the process. To see the other post that I wrote about the project, click here (there's also some before pictures!!).

Okay, so at this point here is the haps on what has been done:
  •  All of the interior walls that need to come down have. This included all the bedroom, bathroom and hallway walls. We also removed the ceiling from these areas along with the blown in insulation that was up there!
  • All of the footings to support the second story that we're adding have been dug. They now been to be inspected and once that's been done we'll pour the concrete in them.
  • The trenches for the in ground plumbing have been dug, and the plumbing has been installed. There will be an inspection on that today and if we pass we can fill the trenches back in.
  • The brick off the front of the house where the interior stairwell will pop out has been removed. The footing in front of it has also been dug.
Some before and after comparisons:

Hall Bath...

Hallway...

(These are the doors to the left of the hall in the picture above this one)

Master bedroom in progress...

And some pictures of the mess we call our house:

Looking into what used to be 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a hallway...

The back corner below was our master bedroom. The little window the the left was in our master bath...

The front of our house. Where the brick has been removed, the wall will be coming out about 3 feet. This is where our staircase is going to be...

This is the footing that we cut out and dug yesterday. It made a mess of my kitchen...
