Monday Bullets

  • We had a great weekend up in Tahoe with lots of great friends. Plus, we took Friday off of work so it was a long weekend.
  • I did not gain any weight whilst on the long weekend.
  • The architect was at our house last week. She is currently drawing plans for our addition/remodel. They should be ready within a week or so. That means that we'll be starting demo by the middle of March. I am nervous, but also excited.
  • My birthday is coming up in less than a month, and I'm having a hard time with gift suggestions for the Mom and hubby. Anything that you would suggest I ask for?
  • Matt and I both have Spring fever. BAD. I'm excited about the nicer weather, but also not. With our plans to expand the homestead this year, we won't have the fund-age or the time to get our boat in tip top shape. That means not as much (if any) boating. It will be worth it though : )
  • I found out a couple of days ago that a friend is expecting her first baby. It's been a lot of trials and tribulations for her to become pregnant, so I'm extra ecstatic.
  • Is it Friday yet?

The Last Three Days...

Saturday through Monday consisted of a much needed three day weekend. Saturday I did some shopping and then went to a Mary Kay party at my cousin's house. I purchased the microdermabrasion set, and let me just say, WOW! I love it after just one use. And I'm NOT being paid to say that : )

Sunday I helped with a bridal shower for my friend Kim. I was in charge of decor. I stole a bunch of picture from her facebook page and had them printed and placed them in frames that I had painted. I also did this with her wedding invite. In addition, I arranged several flower vases to place on tables and next to the pictures. I think it all turned out pretty well and that Kim had a great time at her shower!

Monday, Matt forgot that I didn't have to work. Let's just say I was less than thrilled when he kept the alarm on snooze, the bathroom light on, and the door open at 5:45. One positive thing about not getting to sleep in, by 8:30 I had folded and put away two loads of laundry, made myself a yummy breakfast and ran 3.5 miles. My Mom and I made a trip to Walmart and then had lunch at Applebee's. Later in the day, Rachel and I went to Target and then met up with the boys for a bit.

Overall, a great three day weekend!

Happy Friday!

Want to join in? Head over to this great blog and link up!

1. Have you worn the same outfit more than one day in a row?

I have. Usually when camping. Or when we're at the cabin and I stay in my jammies all day while everyone else hits the slopes.

2. If you had to choose any LARGE city to live in, which would it be?
San Francisco I suppose. Only because it's close to home and my friends and family. Now, if I could take everyone with me, I think I would choose Atlanta, GA (is that a big city???? I mean the housewives have a show there, so I'm assuming......) or Dallas, TX. Something about the south thrills me....

3. Fly or drive with the kids on vacation?
Depends how long the trip will take with both options as well as how old the children are. I don't have any kiddos yet, but when I do I think these two questions will come to mind when making that decision.

4. What is your idea of "spring cleaning"?
Well, what is YOUR idea of spring cleaning? Seriously, I'm not really sure. I feel like I have "spring cleaning" bouts throughout the year. These bouts include mostly reorganization and letting go of things I don't use or wear anymore.

5. What is the best book you have ever read?
Back in 2005 I read 'My Sister's Keeper' by Jodi Picoult. And to this day it is my absolute favorite book. Hands down. And though I liked the movie, it really did ruin the book. So, if you HAVE NOT seen the movie, please read the book before you do. And then come and talk to me about it : )

Golfing

My Dad was an avid golfer. He was totally that sterotype lawyer dude who would make lunch dates at the country club and then play a round before heading home to the wife and kids. He encouraged my brother and I to play too. It was something I remember the three of us doing together often. I didn't love the game or playing it, but I did love the time spent together.

One of the things on my 30 by 30 list is the play golf with my husband. He plays now and then with friends, and I've always wanted to play with him.Well, I accomplished that this last weekend. Sunday, the weather was totally fab to the u-lous and that morning we decided that we simply had to partake in outdoor activities all day. Matt came up with the idea of going to play golf. I jumped at the chance because 1.) It was something different than we normally do, 2.) We would be outside, and 3.) I would be able to cross something off of my list!

We went to a local "pitch and put" that is a simple, 9 hole course. Well, let me re-phrase that, simple for some, but not for people whose names start with an L and end with Lindsey! The average par on most holes was 3 and it took me at least 6 shots on each hole to put the ball in. We still had a great time though! And afterward, I was able to drink a bloody mary because I had earned WW points!!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!! All morning, I've been thinking about all of the Valentine's Day's that I've celebrated over the years. One of my most favorite memories is putting together all of my cards for school and stuffing these message candies into them...

Matt and I aren't super duper into celebrating Valentine's Day, but we do try to make it "stand out" from all other days. We usually have dinner at home, but we eat something that's a treat. Tonight, we're having lobster tail! YUM! In addition, we've agreed that we won't do gifts, but we will exchange cards. I'm also keeping my fingers crossed that after dinner tonight, I can talk Matt into watching this:

I'm so, so lucky to have married the man that I did. And I recognize this every day but I do acknowledge that I'm guilty of not telling him that every day. My husband has so many wonderful qualities and I love him more than words can say.

Of course, Valentine's Day isn't just about the love you have for your spouse. So on that note, here's a shout out to my mom and brother. Both of whom have been rocks for me all my life and who I am so glad to call my family!! Love you guys : )

So, what are your Valentine traditions and activities and who are your Valentines????

Five Question Friday

I recently discovered a great blog and like participating in the Five Question Friday posts that are hosted there. Here it goes for this week.....

1. Would you rather be on ABC's Extreme Home MakeOver or TLC's What not to Wear?

Ah, that's a tough one. Well....with my husband being a general contractor, I'm gonna go with TLC's What not to Wear. If Matt can put his blood sweat and tears into our home, then I may as well get a new wardrobe to look nice for him while he puts forth all that effort : )

2. Do you have any tattoos?

I don't. I've often thought, especially when I was younger, about getting something with my Dad's name or initials. Then I realized that he would kill me if he knew I had any tattoo, let alone something in "honor" of him!

3. Do you tell your kids about things you did growing up?

Being that I have no children, I don't. However, when I do have children I'm not sure that I'll be 100% honest about all that I took part in while growing up...

4. If the traffic signal turns yellow, do you stop or speed up?

It depends. If I feel like I'm close enough to the intersection to make it through before the light is red, I speed up. Otherwise, I stop.

5. What's your preference: chocolate or chips?

Chips for sure! Preferably with some artichoke dip to eat them with!!

A Letter

Today is Friday. Like most other Friday's, the alarm went off and after putting off the inevitable for about 10 minutes, I got out of bed. As I was going about my morning routine of hair, makeup and lunch prep I heard my husband go out the front door. I had no clue why. Well, a minute later he came back inside and I hear the opening and sorting of mail. You see, we're terrible about checking our mail. I mean, REALLY bad. On average, I'd say our mailbox is tended to twice a week. So anyway, Matt is opening the mail.

About five minutes later, I heard him say, "Hey babe, you got a letter from Woodland College." Thinking that it was something to do with deadlines to drop classes or financial aid, I simply replied that I would look at it later if he would put it on my desk. He came into the bathroom and said, "No, no. It's from the NURSING department.". My stomach flipped. Matt asked if he could open it. I told him no.

I slit the envelope open and unfolded the letter. Matt asked if he could read it over my shoulder. I told him no. I told him no because I wanted to be the one to deliver the news to him if I had been accepted to the nursing program. I read the letter. It told me that my nursing application had been received. It told me that the wait list for the program was roughly two years long. It also told me that I had been accepted into the program. I HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED INTO A NURSING PROGRAM!

I am absolutely, 100% on cloud 9. Even though the wait list is tremendous, at least I'm on one, ya know? Which at the end of the day means that, in no more than two years (and hopefully less than that), I will begin nursing school. GO ME!

Finally Friday!

Happy Friday!! Oh, how I look forward to this day of the week. There's just something about that butterfly feeling in your gut when you get two days to not have to be at work at 6:30 in the morning!

So, this weekend I am participating in my first run since the half marathon last October. It's a 6K and I'm stoked about it. On Wednesday I ran 5.4 miles, so I know that I'm ready for Sunday's run. Another thing about the running tip...I've improved my pace by almost a minute per mile. SUPERSTAR!

School. It's good. Speech is turning out to be rather nice. We've had three weeks of class and I haven't gotten up in front of the class one time. We do have a paper due next week, but I'd write papers all day everyday if it meant that I didn't have to stand in front of a group of people that aren't friends or family! And Pharmacology? It freaking rocks. Learning about calculating how much medicine to give to a patient is actually fun and that tells me that I'm going into a field that I should succeed in.

Hopefully I'll have a Five Question Friday post up later. Until then.....

Weight Watcher Wednesday

I've mentioned on here before that I was going to partake in the Weight Watchers diet program. I've seen other blogs that track progress/ideas/goals Wednesdays. Maybe I'll start doing that too. Or maybe this will be the only post about it for months. Who knows?

Thus far, I am down four pounds. My favorite exercise is a toss up between riding my bike or running (depending on my mood - and I'm sure as the weather gets warmer swimming will be getting some airtime as well).

I've found a ton of great WW recipes that I like. It's actually pretty similar to how I usually cook anyway, so dinner has been yummy!

A Whole Lot of Nothing!

My update status is completely underwhelming, I know. Here's the gist of everything:

Had a good weekend. Friday night was spent on the couch with my husband, a take and bake pizza, and a couple of episodes of Friday Night Lights. Saturday I had some girl time with Rachel and Anika. We went to farmer's market, had breakfast and hit up some second hand stores. Then I ran four miles. Then I went to a fundraiser dinner for Skylar's leadership program. Sunday was all about relaxing.

I put in applications to two nursing schools this morning and will apply to two more by the end of the week.

Matt and I had a conversation last night that I thought was funny. You may not think so (probably had to be there) but I want to document it for my (our) own entertainment....

While watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives we see a beet flash on the screen...

Me: Do you like beets?
Matt: (very enthusiastically) I do actually!!! I like the ones that come out of the can at Thanksgiving!! Those are good, but the regular kind taste like dirt...
Me: (giggling hysterically) Those aren't beets, that's canned cranberries you dork!!! So basically, you don't like beets then?
Matt: Not if we're talking about the ones that taste like dirt!!
